The British royal family are not the only people to be affected by the Scorpio eclipse. The total solar eclipse in Scorpio on Tuesday November 13th 2012 at 10.08pm in London will have a profound impact on you, or your friends, lovers or families.
On November 13th, the Moon will completely block out the Sun, at 21 Scorpio 56 in the most dramatic way.
Once seen, never forgotten. I was asked to cover the 1999 eclipse on television in Britain for the Channel Four program, The Big Breakfast, along with astronomer Dr Brian May (better known as the guitarist in Queen and a powerful animal conservationist). We were coming from different angles but we were both in awe of what was about to happen.
Live on air, with other assorted experts, Brian May and I were also accompanied by an owl, which shut its eyes at the crucial moment. I was standing on Glastonbury Tor at the time, as the sky went dark. That month, as I remember it, I had more requests for astrological readings than any other time that year.
YOU AND THE ECLIPSE
An eclipse is unforgettable. It also has huge implications for you, starting in November 2012 and extending well into 2013, which I’ll look at in this feature – together with the big story it tells for the Royal Family, including HM The Queen.
What does it mean? This. One area of your life which has been so lit up, so central, so hard to ignore since the end of October now disappears. Just as the Moon will eat the Sun, something (or someone) which was just ‘there’ is very likely to be swallowed, in the most fated way.
Why is this so important? Because this Scorpio-ruled area of life which almost supernaturally disappears, leaving the world dark for a few minutes, is also the one department of your world where (for the next two years) you will have Saturn teaching you. And where, in 2013, you will have karma returning to you (thanks to the North Node also in Scorpio).
In October-November 2012 it is also the one department of your life where Mercury Retrograde brings a permanent state of flux. This cycle has not even begun yet. As I write this, it is still days away.
I have been writing about this a lot, so I apologise for the repetition. But take the Scorpio-ruled house of your chart very seriously. It will require plenty of time and space. And a great deal of inner work in 2013 and 2014. Pay attention to what November is telling you. The universe can speak to us in the most remarkable ways.
If you don’t have your chart, pick it up at astro.com and use the Whole Sign house system.
THE ECLIPSE AND YOUR SUN SIGN CHART
Your Sun Sign chart will tell the public story about this eclipse, with influences extending from November-February 2013. It shows what is visible, obvious, known to the outside world:
ARIES Business. Finance. Property. Valuables.
TAURUS Former, current, potential partners. Opponents.
GEMINI Health. Work. Lifestyle. Academia. Charity Work.
CANCER Your Son. Your Daughter. The Next Generation.
LEO Your Household. Your Homeland, Home, Home Town.
VIRGO The Written and Spoken Word. Media. Communication.
LIBRA Money. Property. Possessions. Business. Your Values.
SCORPIO Your Image. Your Appearance. Your Reputation.
SAGITTARIUS Your Secret Life. Your Secret Self.
CAPRICORN Your Circle. Your Friends. Groups.
AQUARIUS Your Career. Your Charity Work. Your Student Role.
PISCES Publishing. Education. Travel. Foreign Cultures and Nationalities. Religion.
THE ROYAL FAMILY AND THE ECLIPSE
The Sun is the historic symbol for royalty. In countries without a royal family, like America, it rules the President and his family.
At 21 Scorpio 56 the Scorpio eclipse will exactly aspect the horoscopes of the following members of the British royal family including the late Princess Diana.
HM The Queen – Ascendant 21 Capricorn 22
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall – Asteroid Diana 21 Cancer 57
Kate, Duchess of Cambridge – Saturn 21 Libra 49
Prince Harry – Moon 21 Taurus 20
Princess Diana – Asteroid Psyche 21 Cancer 52 (Exactly conjunct Camilla’s Diana position)
(All data Solar Fire)
THE IMPACT OF THE ECLIPSE ON THE ROYAL FAMILY
Eclipses have always been prominent in the lives of the Royal Family. Princess Diana died on one. Prince Charles married both his wives on one. Prince William was born on one.
The Moon is a symbol for motherhood in astrology. The Sun is a symbol for fatherhood, and also for royalty. Perhaps it’s not surprising.
Eclipses happen all the time. But the November eclipse is a powerful change of direction for the House of Windsor. I was fascinated to see horary astrologer Peter Stockinger look at the astrology of November using a technique many centuries old, to look at this same eclipse. You can read his interpretation here.
The potent 21 degree position in the horoscopes of five members of the royal family does not mean others (like Prince Charles) will not be excluded by the events of November and December. The Prince has the South Node at 4 Scorpio, for example, and Saturn will form a conjunction there. That’s a big enough story by itself.
Prince Phillip has the Midheaven at 7 Scorpio, and that will be triggered in December by transiting Saturn. Another massive story of change, that can only happen around every three decades.
Why am I extending the range of this Scorpio eclipse to December? Because Mercury is Retrograde in Scorpio and it will take some time before he moves out of his shadow. It will not be until December 7th, for example, that Mercury forms a conjunction to the North Node at 25 Scorpio.
The best article I have ever read on the late, great Princess Diana and astrology is by author, academic and astrologer Nick Campion. She has passed over, but her influence remains and it is triggered by the events of November and December 2012.
MICHELE ADLER ON THE ECLIPSE
It can be so hard to find good information about eclipses on the internet, in these days of amateur astrologers and ‘instant’ astrologers, who make it up as they go.
November is an intense month, with Saturn, the North Node, the Eclipse and Mercury Retrograde all in Scorpio – and we need great astrologers to help us get through it. And also to understand the impact on the world at large.
The astrology world is very lucky to have Michele Adler. She is the author of Predictive Astrology: Cycles of Change, Cycles of Meaning. She is a graduate from the University of Memphis and is well-known to members of the American Federation of Astrologers, the National Council of Geocosmic Research, the Association for Astrological Networking and the International Society of Astrological Research.
Michele says, days to watch for eclipse manifestations include November 21st when Mercury will be retrograde at 21 Scorpio, and also December 4th when Mercury is direct, transiting the same spot.
She also mentions ongoing repercussions in January and February 2013, when the North Node will be transiting 21-22 Scorpio and the New Moon will be at 21 Aquarius, squaring the eclipse point of 21 Scorpio.

THE ECLIPSE AND BARACK OBAMA
Michele writes, “When I saw that the upcoming eclipse of Nov. 13, 2012 would be at 21 Scorpio (rounded up to 22), my first observation was that there are a number of people connected to the Obama US presidential campaign who have that degree arc prominent in their charts. Joe Biden, vice president of the United States, has natal Mercury in 21 Scorpio. Valerie Jarrett, who is considered to be Obama’s second in command, has the Sun at 21 Scorpio, and Mercury at 22 Scorpio, and the eclipse will be prominent in her solar return for the coming year. David Axelrod, the head of President Obama’s campaign, has his natal Saturn at 21 Scorpio. Hillary Clinton, Obama’s secretary of state, has natal Mercury at 21 Scorpio.Though her birth time is conflicting, the one most commonly used also gives her 21 Scorpio rising. The degree is in a tight square in her natal chart with Saturn in 21 Leo. David Plouffe, manager of President Obama’s 2008 campaign and senior adviser, Neptune at 22 Scorpio 38 Rx”
DO YOU HAVE HOROSCOPE FACTORS AT 21 DEGREES?
The houses of your horoscope where you find the transiting eclipse at 21 Scorpio, and the natal house affected, will tell two parallel stories in November.
Have a close look at the Scorpio-ruled house of your chart, because this is where the main headlines will unfold. As described above, it’s the area of your horoscope ruled by Scorpio which is where you are now experiencing not only Saturn (for the first time in 29 years) but also the North Node and Mercury Retrograde.
As I write this the Mercury Retrograde through Scorpio has not even started. When it does, it will create chaotic patterns, triggering whatever was ‘decided’ or ‘known’ during the time it was moving through its shadow, from October 2012.
Without seeing your chart, I can’t tell which house of your chart contains the planet, angle, point or asteroid most affected. But I can talk about Scorpio on the cusp of any particular house and describe what it means.
Remember, this applies to the Royal Family too. An archetypal Scorpio event will take place in November-December 2012, with repercussions into January-February 2013.
ALL ABOUT SCORPIO EVENTS
Let’s get back to basics with the interpretation of Scorpio. All the way back to the simple symbolism of this sign Babylon, where astrologers named the chosen constellation after a deadly little creature.
Scorpions are predators. They can kill or paralyse.
Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, the Roman God of the Underworld, where souls were taken after death. Pluto paralysed the world when he abducted Prosperpina. Her mother Ceres went into such a deep depression that the seasons stopped. Pluto froze the planet, the way scorpions can freeze their prey.
Pluto also took Proserpina to Hades for six months every year where she was effectively dead to the world.
The idea of things dying or being paralysed is central to everything about November, December 2012 and possibly as late as January and February 2013.
The area of life where this occurs will be personal to you. Ironically, out of the death or paralysis comes a whole new world.
On a global level, the death or paralysis will be financial, because in the big order of things, Scorpio rules the Eighth House – the sharemarkets. If you’re curious about that then see my predictions for Wall Street made back in September, in an article on Mercury Retrograde, also on this blog.
The scorpion is a predator in nature. Scorpio is linked to the Eighth House in astrology, which rules big business, corporate finance and the legal profession – where all human predators can be found, too. So the idea of preying on people, and preying on human nature, is key to Scorpio.
The sex act between Scorpions is a dance known as a promenade a deux. The scorpion must be one of the few creatures you’ll ever see in a nature documentary to have its own x-rated French terminology. There is also a big focus on the tail of the scorpion – more sex!
Scorpio is, and has always been, associated with the connection between sex and money, business and property. A real promenade a deux which often involves lawyers at critical points…
This sexual and financial connection commonly manifests as marriage, which means a propertyand business merger.
And divorce, which ends in a payout.
And new babies, which mean a necessary change to the last will and testament
Finally, marriage ends in death for one partner before the other (usually) which entails the aforementioned last will and testament, and a money and property transfer.
The connection between sex and business can also be darker. As I write this, the BBC in Britain and the Catholic Church in Australia are all in headlines about the sexual abuse of children. And of course, paying for sex (prostitution) is ruled by Scorpio.
In most cases, though, Scorpio is about births, deaths and marriages. That’s what I believe is in store for the Royal Family in November 2012-February 2013 following the eclipse – unless it unlocks something deeper and darker in royal history.
More symbolically, in your horoscope in November-December, the Scorpio eclipse is about the creation of the new or end of the old!
SCORPIO GENERATIONS
I am part of the Neptune in Scorpio generation, born with that planet in the sign of the scorpion. Perhaps you are too. Or were you born with Saturn in Scorpio (so you’re about to go into your thirties)? Or were you born with Uranus in Scorpio, or Pluto in Scorpio?
We collectively all have a big Scorpio theme inside us somewhere, thanks to the unusual way in which so many outer planets passed through the sign of the Scorpion in recent decades.
As one large, breathing, heaving planet full of Scorpio-influenced people, we will need to think deeply about the November line-up. On the broadest level this is going to be about the global economy, because millions of us have been placed on the planet, at this particular time, with outer planets in the sign of finance/power.
Remember, Mercury will start his retrograde in Scorpio on November 14th.
Once he is out of his final shadow in December, wheels will begin to turn forwards, not backwards, and we will all be able to figure out our strategies for 2013 in the context of having Saturn, the North Node and the after-effects of an eclipse all in the same house of our charts. If you have horoscope factors at 21 degrees, and will be personally affected by this eclipse, feel free to calculate your chart using the Whole Sign house system then pose any questions here. This is a crazy time of year, but I will do my best to get back to you!
Jessica Adams, November 11, 2012

The eclipse is conjunct my natal Saturn at 21 Scorpio in my 12th house. Transiting Saturn has just passed over my natal Pluto and Vesta. Interesting times. I am worried about the eclipse conjunction though…
Thanks for your response. I’m not familiar with whole signs (which I just tried – it brings everything forward one house) but I’ve been using Equal. My natal Saturn makes contacts with my Mercury, Jupiter, MC and Moon, and is close to my ascendant at 29 Scorpio.
What can you tell me about the effect of the lunar eclipse on me. I have Gemini rising 4.23. The solar eclipse I have Jupiter in Scorpio 22.33. Thanks, kerri
