Tarot for the Month of July 2020

How will July unfold, in your life, and on the world stage? Tarot professionals Katie-Ellen Hazeldine in Great Britain and Kyra Oser in the United States and Canada look at the cards.

Katie-Ellen Hazeldine – Knight of Pentacles (Reversed) / The Magician

For the month of July 2020, I was drawn to pull two cards: Knight of Pentacles (Reversed) and The Magician from The Rider-Waite Tarot deck.

July seems likely to continue a muddy mixture of slow, sticky, stressful and potentially angry energy during this month, both on the world stage and potentially in domestic life. But the appearance of The Magician, drawn upright, not reversed, means that it is certainly not all bad news as the month goes on.

This card is picking up on an astronomical and astrological event. Funnily enough – although this is typical of Tarot- the full moon on July 5th is in the cardinal earth sign of Capricorn, first sign of winter, and the energies around the Knight of Pentacles card are likewise earthy, solid and slow, thorough and somewhat detail orientated – a mixture of Capricorn and Virgo qualities.

The elements associated with The Knight of Pentacles are earth but also fire – ‘the fire of earth’- like a slow molten lava flow.

The Knight of Pentacles when drawn upright is a card of steady, solid growth, financial or otherwise. However, drawn reversed here, and regardless of the buoyancy of the Bull market as widely reported, the Knight of Pentacles reflects a downward turn in many economies as a direct consequence of the efforts to manage the Covid-19 pandemic.

This was entirely to be expected, but many people could experience further delays in the arrival or payments of government cheques/checks. The money will arrive, but the system is at full stretch and the card denotes two speeds, slow and dead slow. There could be further demonstrations of civil unrest in early July. There is a lot of fear and with that comes anger. Sometimes anger can be useful. Anger can get good things done. Not so at this time, however. Try and stay on an even keel this month.

At home, anything that is about physically growing or creating or repairing something will help turn this energy right-side up again.

The Knight of Pentacles upright is a beautiful card…green shoots, the growing of all green things, and when it is a living person, they are the salt of the earth –on their better days.

Reversed however, you or a loved one may be spending the first few days in July lounging about in a state of complete de-motivation. Maybe a loved one is giving you the silent treatment or is just generally withdrawn. Capricorn, with a detail-orientated element of Virgo thrown in may be extra fussy right now, bored and grumpy and picking fault, or binging on food, while at the same time neglecting or refusing to eat their greens and putting on weight during this lockdown.

The Knight of Pentacles reversed may caution that there is a need to take extra care against knee strains and other minor lower leg injuries during this time. However, The Magician has also showed up for this reading, and this is generally good news.

The Magician is ruled by Mercury, planet of communications, media, commerce, trade, and travel. Mercury went retrograde on 18 June 2020. You may have noticed any number of annoyances in connection with this, losing stuff, miscommunications, things breaking down.

But Mercury goes direct again after 12 July 2020, indicating that the lockdown in the UK, and maybe other places, could be further lifted around this time, even if only on an experimental basis, depending on the R rate remaining favourable.

Likewise, The Magician (because it represents the Number 1) may be detecting a wider reduction of the 2 metre social distancing rule, to a 1 metre rule, which would be beneficial to the retail, beauty and hospitality industries.

We are told that governments are exploring ‘travel corridors’ that could enable foreign holiday travel on a restricted basis, and this seems likely to be progressed in time for mid-July.

On a personal level, The Magician is the ultimate card that says ‘a man.’ You may notice that the man in your life seems to be feeling better as the month wears on, or you may notice that you are arguing less, getting on better, or if you are single, you may meet someone new, and this is more likely to happen after July 12 than before.

The Magician is also you, male or female. It is yourself, and the things you can do. It is the card of your personal power of initiative and accomplishment. The Magician has skills. He or she worked hard to develop those skills or know-how. The Magician is agile and adaptable, and will always have something to offer, something to trade.

It’s just a question of searching out those opportunities. The Magician is the Major Arcana card of self- employment facilitated by IT. Many people may find they would prefer to continue working this way even after this public health emergency is over.

In Summary: The second and third weeks of July feel the best in general for communications and possibly longer distance travel, both on the world stage, and for you and me personally. For the rest, it seems to be a case of soft- pedalling, no ‘upping the ante’ on anything, taking things gently for the best outcomes this month.

Take care, take it easy, and stay safe until next time.

Kyra Oser – Knight of Wands (Reversed)

The tarot card I drew for July is the Knight of Wands Reversed. This is a goal-oriented card that provides inspiration for sharing creative ideas or pursuing a hobby that you’re passionate about.

On a global scale, this card can signify travel delays. Furthermore, in climate news, there will be a demand to relinquish previous goals in favor of newer, more expedited plans that fit upcoming changes. Neptune moving retrograde in Pisces means water issues such as flooding, tsunamis, and sea level rise will increasingly appear in news headlines in the coming months. There will be a focus on sea life that supersedes anything we’ve previously experienced. Creative adaptation on a mass scale will result from these occurrences. This concentration on water issues and even water supply will bring current projections of fossil fuel divestments by 2025 or 2030 into question. There will be a growing consensus that necessary changes must be made sooner to avert as much damage as possible. One of the developments will be to hold politicians to account by continually asking the following questions at climate and news conferences: 1) What are you going to do about this issue today?, 2) What actions will you take to amend this climate problem by the end of this week and month?, and 3) When will you attend the next climate or news conference where we can check on which of these actions were taken and therefore hold one another to account? In other words, the notion of international accountability will be on the rise soon.

In your own life, this is a creative month but some of your ideas might need time to progress before being presented in a more public forum. If your plans move forward without interference, you’re being encouraged to proceed with the project. However, if you’ve been colliding with one hindrance after another, consider that this blockage might offer you an opportunity to bring your project to another level. Know that any delays will make sense in hindsight. Consider the possibility that these apparent obstructions are not happening to you, they’re happening for you. While it may be tempting to push your ideas forward in their current form, this card serves as a caution against impulsivity. Knight of Wands Reversed signifies the patience necessary to develop a skill or bring a project to completion. Meanwhile, take the time to think things through, consult with experts, or learn new aspects of your chosen field or hobby.

In relationships, this card encourages tolerance and the cultivation of faith in outcomes. You might ask yourself, “Do I believe life (or nature, the cosmos, a higher power, Great Spirit, etc.) handles the results?” Maybe you do, maybe you don’t…but what might happen if you did? If you’re normally an action-oriented person to the point of wanting to “run the show,” try doing a George Costanza (Seinfeld reference) by taking the opposite tactic: in this case, that would be acting as if you have faith in the future until the feeling comes. Or you can simply let go, get your mind on something else, and take a different path if you want to get a different result.

Overall, this is a humbling card that opens all of us up to an amplification of community efforts, individual projects that transform into group movements, and the opportunity to share ideas and revelations through innovative, unprecedented strategies. The energy needed to fuel your next adventures is approaching. Once July’s delays give way to an inevitable path forward, you’ll be free to share and enjoy an expansion of your personal gifts like never before.

  1. Dear Jessica, I would be so grateful if you would draw a card for the month of July for me? I feel like I’m on the edge of my seat ready to pounce and I know it’s chiron.
    Thanks ever so much

    • Yes you are pretty wound up and need an outlet for your energy. Chiron and Mars in Aries together have a really short fuse and you are far better off channelling your feelings into competitive sport, hot yoga or just long walks at great speed. Of course there may be a genuine issue for you to fight or lobby for. Your card is the Knight of Swords. He is going too far, too fast. Don’t let this be you. He would be much happier slowing down and figuring out a plan. That is also you. Find out who/what is firing you up in July and then strategise. The Knight does better with a strategy otherwise he’s just wasting his considerable energy.

  2. Hello Jessica,

I am having some rather difficult (but necessary conversations) with a sibling who is clearly struggling with her own stuff.

It’s hard to keep be empathetic when I am processing my own traumas too and there seems to be no empathy from their side, and I am being criticised as a victim and continually get ‘ghosted’ as soon as I begin to speak the truth. Boundaries protecting my emotional state are definitely being required and I’m trying hard to be loving and assertive. Can you please pull a card for the next 6 weeks to see how this may play out?

    Thanks so much x

    • Sure. The card you have here is The Empress. She is perfectly happy in her own space and there is nobody else in the picture. She has home comforts, a lovely local park or garden and she is cushioned. This is a strong message about you both separating yourselves energetically from the situation. Siblings can sometimes be far more content in their own space. Now, is this her as well? You both need a break in July. And we have far too much strain in the sign of Cancer in your Fourth House, which is the family.

  3. Hi Jessica

Could you please draw a card for me please?

I read back to your February post on July being huge in terms of world-wide company and finance turmoil, so I wonder if I should wait until August to make any decisions related to money/savings/investment.

    Thank you
    Shaolee

    • Shaolee you need to speak to your tried, tested and trusted financial advisor most of all. Astrology is only one tool in the toolkit of life. July is turmoil. There is no way around it. We are heading for the long Jupiter-Pluto transit in Capricorn the sign of big business. Many rotten kingdoms will fall and that will affect the markets. We are also in Mercury Retrograde in Cancer which rules mortgages and the value of houses and apartments. So July is not normal. The Tarot card for July reflects this: the Two of Coins. You have to know what you are doing to gain from market madness. You can see this card online. Unless you are widely experienced at doing very well from chaotic conditions, be aware that the old certainties are out of the window in July. But please put your advisor first.

  4. What an interesting month July will be. I know we just had an eclipse, and I think this manifested itself interestingly in my life where I was offered a promotion last week which was lower than I thought I was actually at. Turns out I thought I had been doing one job for the last two years, where my boss thought I was doing another. And we never figured it out! So when I was told about the promotion, I said “thank you, but to be honest I thought I was more senior than that already.” It was a surprise to him and a surprise to me. It’s almost like finding out my mother is actually my grandmother and I’m having a little bit of an identity crisis. Obviously, with so many planets moving backwards looking for a new job is silly – but WOW. It’s almost funny that we’ve managed to have so many conversations over the last two years where I have challenged my role and pushed to do more, and we were on completely different planets! Certainly puts a new spin on old conversations! So in re-mode, I’m updating my LinkedIn profile and reconnecting with people. Would love your thoughts on whether or not my boss will correct the imbalance – the leaders of the firm will be very disappointed to see me leave – or if it’s time to move on.

    • Classic eclipse! I love the way you describe it although obviously I am sorry you had to go through it. You have another eclipse on July 5th with the Full Moon in your house of career so please sidestep that, into Monday. Later on it becomes easier and in fact by December you will have been thrown a golden opportunity either with your current firm or another. You are in the kind of cycle when even peculiar situations like this work in your favour.

  5. Dear Jessica, happy July and thank you for all the wonderful things you are sharing with us through this website. I was wondering if it is possible to have some insight into my personal life from Tarot’s point of view. I am in a long-distance (international) relationship, and due to the current worldwide situation, we have been unable to meet for a very long time. I would like to know if there is anything positive to look forward regarding this relationship, if there is any possibility to surpass current obstacles and move things to the next level. Thank you very much in advance.

    • I am sorry you are caught in this weather at the moment. Unfortunately you two have longer to wait as we are heading towards a T-Square in Sagittarius, Gemini and Pisces in January 2021 which is a deadlock and crisis for airports, airlines and cruises. I have to be honest with you; borders will be closing down not opening.

  6. Hi Jessica, could you please draw me a card for July, I’ve also had a fascination with the tarot, thank you Jill

    • The High Priestess is your card. July is about learning or teaching. This can be formal, or informal. It is not the usual educational process. It is on a higher level so it’s about a reshaped world view. Perhaps a new philosophy that comes with it. You will be studying or just picking up knowledge. You will be mentoring, guiding or tutoring – or just doing so informally. It is a real crossroads as you will learn as much as you pass on. Just showing others educates you.

  7. Jessica,
How will July unfold in my life and what I can expect in my life.
    Thanks a lot!
    Rose

    • July is about rehearsal. Getting ready to do things, later. August and September. And particularly 2021. So lots of thinking and daydreaming, lots of research and questioning. What you come up with will be much more likely next year, but July is a really good month to ponder. You have a Cups card which is all about possible universes, not delivered realities. So nothing is concrete but everything is worth daydreaming about. Ask yourself who and what would really make you happy. Not compromising or just accepting or expecting. Who or what would absolutely make you happy? Dreams will help too, as well as daydreams. Write them down.

  8. Hi Jessica,
I am juggling so much I am surprised I can keep going. I have had an unusual June.
If at all possible could you pull a card for my July. I always appreciate your time and words.
    Love Rosie

    • You are a good juggler and it’s a smart thing to do – we are now firmly in the kind of climate where you never quite know what/who is going to turn up and it is much better to be open to everything and ready to turn your back on what you were doing, in favour of what you now see working. In July your Tarot card is The Moon which shows property and finance. The scorpion waits and two dogs gaze at two apartments. This is really about the need to downsize or upsize financially depending on moving conditions and to understand that 2018 and 2019 don’t have an awful lot to do with 2020. Rather than assume anything about earnings, income, taxation, houses, apartments, budgets, business, charity and so on – you need to find out, Rosie. Use July to do some research to find out where things are actually at. Then change.

  9. Hi jessica,
We would like to buy a house in South Australia. Do you see this happening for us. Jobwise as well; will everything be ok. We sold our NSW house. Thank you. PJ

    • You did this on Mercury Retrograde in Cancer in your Fourth House of property, PJ, so you may find stop-start action, reversals, rewrites, delays and the usual Mercury weather. This winds down in the last days of July when life will feel a bit more on track.

  10. Thank you Jessica. this COVID 19 plus my mercury retrograde has /had me and my family on edge!!! Ta PJ

  11. Hi Jessica,
Thank you for all that you share and the time you dedicate to your memebers. Can you kindly draw a card for me and help me understand what to expect? I’m grieving a very special relationship at the moment and i’m finding it so hard and feel stuck to move on. Can you please share some insight? thank you

    • The key here is the Ace of Cups’ background which shows lotuses floating on Aquarian waves. Aquarius is the group. It is also about the human family. The lotuses remind us of the Buddha and the Dalai Lama whose religion is kindness. If you want relief and release from emotional pain, join (or reboot) a group which gives to other people. A charity or good cause. That is your answer. Go outside yourself and the other person and into the world of community.

  12. Hi Jessica,

Happy July! I would be so grateful if you could please draw a card for me for July!
    Thank you so much!

    Astrid

    • Sure, Astrid. Your July card is The Tower. The question is, do you walk away from the old world and start all over again? Or do you go back to the old world, no matter how dented it is, and try to reshape it and rebuild it? Only you can make that choice. It is amazing how often people decide to turn their back on what they had, and go in search of something totally new and different. They prefer the experiment to the ‘known’ because they realise the known was not that great after all.

  13. Hi Jessica

Can you please pick a card for relationship? I don’t have one but I have been seeing ace of cup lately.

    Thank you

    • The Ace of Cups is about one solid gold relationship in your life. Not necessarily love and sex at all. It can be the Christening of a new baby and you are the proud godparent. It tends to be emotional and spiritual and it feels so fulfilling and rewarding. It can be a very deep and old friendship with someone who is like a sister or brother. It can also be a family member. The group around you is also wonderful. This is a circle, community or society/association/team/club. That will reward you enormously in 2021.

  14. Hi Jessica,

I hope you’re well. Boy oh boy, it’s been a tough couple of weeks and July has been off to a difficult start already. I’m sure things will ease up soon :). You had mentioned a couple of months ago the highlight of 2020 for me will likely be a relationship. Right before Mercury retro, I met someone online who is at a distance from me (different continents). We hit it off and he seemed smitten but over the last two weeks has been backing off in a big way. He is a Gemini. Is this something worth pursuing by any chance?

Thank you for your insight! Stay safe!

    AJ

    • July is powerful and hard work but essentially it is a good month to pursue change which corrects situations and brings balance to what was never balanced before. That is what Jupiter and Pluto can do in unison. Yes, I did predict a relationship for you AJ. There could be more than one for you actually so don’t worry too much about your Gemini backing off. Try to relax about it and not overdo the emotion or reaction. I don’t have the chart so there could be any number of reasons for this. Yet, another face would be waiting for you if this does not work out.

  15. Hi Jessica, thank you for this. Such crazy times and this month is feeling pretty scary from the get-go.
I would love some good news this month. Be grateful for a card if you have time! xx

    • Yes of course. Your Tarot card for July is The Moon. Time is of the essence with finance, property, charity or business. There is a deadline here. There is also a choice between two places, or two spaces. It involves two of you. You can’t take too long to decide what you are going to do. This may be because of closed borders, new travel restrictions, the price of houses and apartments, the cost of rent, and so on. Yet it is important that both of you communicate honestly and openly about what is possible and what you both want and need. That will help you in 2020, 2021, in terms of how to live and work, or where to live and work. A healthy compromise is a very good thing. But any confusion, guesswork or brick-wall communication has to be rolled away. There has to be thorough discussion here and there is no point in thinking you know – what the other person is thinking – you need to find out!

  16. Dear Jessica,

Really interesting cards and insight for this month – fascinating that both Katie-Ellen and Kyra drew reversed cards, as I don’t remember ever seeing reversed cards before!

I wonder if you could please draw a card for me for July? I’m still working on re-shaping my life and lifestyle and issues about “Time, time” seem to keep coming up recently! Hoping for (and being able to create) a shift with all this somehow….

    Thank you in advance!

Stay well, safe and sane in these crazy times! Lots of love, light and blessings to you,

    Angelina

    • No, Angelina, something made them reach for a reversed pile in the deck. Angelina, your card for July is The Chariot. Travel suspended. The chariot should be moving but it has come to a grinding halt. By 31st July your own or other people’s cancellations or rescheduling will disrupt a plan. That disruption will buy you spare time to focus on something that will move (really move) later on.

  17. This reading is so relevant, it’s scary. But we need this too so I hope it comes. Will let you know. xx

  18. Dear Jessica,

Thank you so much for your reply – WOW, that card and interpretation is absolutely spot-on! Various plans have completely ground to a halt recently (even those not directly impacted by the ongoing Coronavirus crisis!) and it all felt a bit frustrating, but it is reassuring to know that these delays are ultimately going to be beneficial, allowing time for a real breakthrough to flourish.

The biggest plan for us that has been derailed by the pandemic has been my grandmother’s 100th Birthday celebrations, with a large family party originally scheduled for her birthday on Easter Monday. This had to be radically altered to a simple afternoon tea party with a homemade cake (made by me!) and attended by just those in the household – my grandmother, me, my father and our lovely spaniels! Heaven knows when it might be possible or safe to reschedule – can’t delay celebrations for Centenarians forever, but every day brings more conflicting information, confusing and worrying news about the virus and rising cases (as your blog predicted, with Mercury retrograde, etc!), so it could be some time yet. My grandmother is utterly unfazed – something about being in the WRENs during WWII and surviving bombing raids and invasion scares seems to have left her immune to panic! – but health and safety will have to be paramount, for everyone’s sake…..

Thanks again. Stay well and safe! Lots of love, light and blessings to you,

    Angelina

    • I am sorry about your grandmother’s 100th birthday being derailed but the Tarot is usually right. I know the misinformation about the virus is really frustrating. It is typical Mercury Retrograde stuff – you read one thing by an expert or politician, and then it is contradicted! I am glad your former WREN heroine grandmother takes it in her stride. I hope she is hale and hearty for her 101st birthday too.

    • No, not too late. We have The Moon for you, which is two dogs staring blindly at the Moon while a scorpion rises behind them. In the distance two towers stand. This is about the realities of your house, flat, financial situation in July 2020 and also that of a key person who has a big emotional impact on you. You two are the same but opposite. It’s odd. You are alike but different. You have choices to make about where to stay or live in 2020, perhaps 2021, and time is of the essence as you both have bills to pay or income to sort out. You have budgets that will not wait. There is a fair bit of avoidance or denial going on here, a lot of confusion and some blinkered thinking. You both need to talk when the time is right, or put things down in writing. Then a decision can be made.

  19. Thank you! This resonates so much right now. I’ve mentioned before I detest (strong word I know) where we live. The move was purely financial at a stressful point in our life and in turn has sucked the life out of me. I cannot wait to leave but to leave we need a business to appear in a locale we would like to move to – we have come back from the financial brink already and don’t plan on it happening again. I have been feeling this opportunity would present soon – or have already happened.. even the cards have suggested it but, nothing yet. I’m getting a bit depressed about it, or spiritually down in the dumps. The other you speak of is my Taurus partner. We are so, so different and yet cut from the same soul cloth. He knows how much I want to leave and is really on board but he is the practical to my whimsical. Perhaps the tough conversation is around what happens if we don’t get an opportunity to move toward?
    Thank you Jessica :-)

    • It is awful to detest where you live, and yet you are in this cycle when the South Node, Saturn and Pluto all in Capricorn, all opposite the Moon in Cancer (home) every four weeks, has really affected you since the end of 2017. Yes, there will be a no-nonsense, practical discussion between you and your partner, likely in October or November 2020, and you will then have a better idea of where things are at financially. That period will see more government announcements on funding, allowances, incentives, property – and more from the business world. Of course you can talk before then but the astrology tells me that it is pre and post Halloween that are the really important periods for long-term decisions. Don’t be down in the dumps about this, but do know things get better in slow stages. You will see a much easier time from the second week of September and then from Christmas 2020 the vast number of obstacles you had, will have been moved right away.

  20. Hi Jessica can you please take a card for me . I would like to have an idea what’s in
Store for me in july .Thank you

    • July is the Wheel of Fortune which shows life on the turn, high and low, up and down. It lets you know that what you might consider to be a low point is actually a high point in the making. In other words every cloud has a silver lining. At the same time you have to keep your sense of humour about life, because when you are on top of the world, it is a sure sign it won’t last forever. This makes you more philosophical about life, accepting the swings and roundabouts, and learning to live in the moment and enjoy it when things are going well, and to learn all you can from life (and be patient) when you feel things are bottoming out. On another note, you or the people in your world will be affected by a transformation in the global college and university system, as by 2022 we are going to see affordable education online for everybody who is qualified (intellectually) to take a degree, or a further degree. This is hugely exciting, will involve millions and also bring in mature-age students who never had the chance to go to university when they were younger. There will be a ripple effect from this that affects you too.
