I predicted this week two years ago. It’s Mercury Retrograde.
Quote: “We will see on-and-off political chaos involving world leaders and major political parties from December 29th, 2021, until February 14th, 2022. Mercury Retrograde 2021-2022 can be disruptive at the top.”
We’ll see where we land in about one month from now, but expect leadership contests, resignations, sackings and promotions. One really big name will go by St. Valentine’s Day.
Aries, when you are going to be seen purely in terms of your business card, your achievements, your success, and your mission, you need to really respect the system. The profession, industry, business or field. And if not? Well, you’ll know about it, within days of this Pluto-Sun conjunction. You can get promoted now, but you can also rethink what success means if you dislike the workplace or the sector. Do you have any idea about what you’re well-known for, in your particular industry or field? Do you know what you’re ‘famous’ for, professionally, as a student or volunteer? That’s what the Sun will single out now. Its brilliant, relentless spotlight will sweep around your name, reputation, CV and success rating. The conjunction to Pluto happens every year, so you must be used to ‘every single January’ by now. This one is chaotic, because of Mercury Retrograde. Expect nobody to know where anyone fits, for very long. Jigsaw puzzles go on for weeks.
The same trends apply to you if you are retired, unemployed or have full-time home duties – but this cycle will be about the roles and goals you have on your own merits.

Teaching, study, publishing, the worldwide web, but most of all – foreigners and foreign nations – rule this week. What is it that’s truly special, even brilliant, about you, in that context? Or not? What happens over the next week will help to reveal all. Taurus if you are way off track, the Sun will expose what needs to be corrected and adjusted. You may be an Australian who wants to move to America. You may be British but have ties to South Africa.
The most important aspects of your academic abilities, your teaching or lecturing skills, your potential as publisher or author – will be on display now. Yet it will be in the context of foreign countries and people. You may feel as if you are watching yourself, watching yourself! You’ll be tremendously self-conscious about your performance and status in these areas, but bear in mind that the rest of the world will also be watching, too. Pluto and its conjunction to the Sun suggests a change in the controls. Whenever you get Pluto around, there are questions about who the top dog is, who could be going up in the world, and who needs to share. This is going to take until late February to finalise, Taurus, because of Mercury Retrograde. So, if you are even flying, or planning to, in this modern plague, be aware of cancellation and rescheduling risks.

Allow for delays and flux with – mortgages, tax, inheritance payments, partnership investments, commission, loans, settlements, debts, joint assets and shared resources. The Sun and its conjunction to Pluto will single out all the important issues for you now, about who or what is actually in control, so you have a chance to sort out what (or who) is making you feel confident, or not. Rather than spend the next 12 months correcting it all, aim for a process now, extending to February. You get this every January, Gemini. You have to figure out how to manage the balance of power over the money, property, charity, possessions, business, money in a fair and reasonable way.

The Sun will illuminate and expose all the corners of your key relationships with partners – past, present or future. Duels, too. You probably have at least one enemy, opponent or rival and having to deal with their issues is standard on this cycle. Or do you? Cancer, the Sun-Pluto conjunction this week suggests the usual January power shift with your husband (say) or someone you are fighting.
If you marry or become engaged now, expect more attention than you imagined and a glaring lack of privacy. Ditto, if you break up or get divorced, for example. The common thread is a question about who or what is in control. Self-control gets you control on this transit. Just allow until late February for the last dust to settle. Leo, your ruler the Sun is now in a conjunction with Pluto in your Sixth House of work and wellbeing. This is an important week of inner decision-making about both but allow until late February for the final flux to stop as you will hit rescheduling, delay and even cancellation on this cycle.

Leo, let’s consider the health, fitness and wellbeing aspect of this cycle first. Everything about your body will be a lot more obvious now – which is why it’s classically a time for a medical check-up. The Sun reveals what you can be proud of, in terms of your health – and what is clearly in need of attention. It exposes what is central and important – what can’t be overlooked. The Sun-Pluto conjunction is more about work, but there is a second sub-plot here involving your health, wellbeing, fitness, mental health and so on.
Even if you are already receiving medical or alternative health treatment, this period is extremely useful, as it can give you much clearer insights on everything about your workload, daily routine, lifestyle, schedule, the pecking order with your job and the rest. Chances are you will see a promotion, departure, demotion, merger or just a compromise there, shortly. It will take ages to become firm, but by late February it’s there. You cannot separate your wellbeing issues from that, though, and you shouldn’t.

This is the cycle when lovers, pregnancy, babies, infants, schoolchildren, teenagers and/or younger generations call you. There is a change this week, in terms of the control, influence or power. A classic example is a daughter, granddaughter and great-grandchild in a kind of hierarchical twist. Another is a major ‘situation’ as they say, with your son’s school, as we are dealing with pandemic. In fact, given that your ruler Mercury is also retrograde, you’d have to suspect ongoing chaos out there is affecting life with children, godchildren, nieces, nephews and so on. And of course, younger people en masse, if you are a nurse on a ward, or a teacher dealing with it all.
Well, Virgo, this relentless spotlight on your relationship with a younger generation is useful. It can show you what and who you like, and don’t like. And what and who needs to be appreciated, reworked or set aside. The Sun-Pluto conjunction suggests huge change. Allow until late February for the final details, though.

It all depends on how much work you’ve put in, of course, but also on your judgment last January 2021, to some extent – with property or family now. You can put your home up for sale now and be thrilled to find it sets new records for property auctions in your street by late February. Or you can open the door one day and find that the lodger has once again (supply usual issue here).
You have a Sun-Pluto conjunction now. There will be a chance in the balance of power within the family tree. Branches will change direction. Leaves may fall. Winds will blow, Libra. It’s the same with a shared household. If neither applies, the issue will be your town or country. The actual house or apartment. The Third House rules brothers, sisters, and cousins. Your ruler Pluto is in a conjunction with the Sun this week, as was the case last January, so this post-Christmas period is usually about your sibling or cousin. Expect the usual change in the controls too. Favourite son can become black sheep. You can find yourself becoming far more central, as a sister – or close relative. There will be a shift in the balance of power this week, but it may not be until late February that it all becomes final as you will hit the usual Mercury Retrograde flux.
This transit also rules the media, the internet, education, publishing and all hi-tech communication and short-haul travel (a quick plane trip, an overnight stay, a weekend car expedition.) While the Sun passes through the Third House it will shine a huge spotlight on all these areas of your life, so you can judge them – and make decisions. Just remember Mercury! If you are even considering a holiday at this mad time (the Mercury Retrograde dates were posted on this website in 2020) – then be aware of extreme weather and COVID-19 disruption until the end of February, ongoing.

Expect a reshuffle or deeper change than that, with your financial position, your salary, your money management, your assets (possessions or property) and your debts, now. You are in luck in 2022 with houses, apartments and other residential arrangements, so this will make a huge difference.

The Pluto-Sun conjunction this week does rather suggest control or power is channelled through the money, or the house/apartment at the moment. Same as it ever was! You will need to figure out new calculations with the other person/the organisation, Sagittarius. Based on, let us say, a new life budget. This will take until late February to become absolutely final, so expect flux.

Here comes the usual January Sun-Pluto conjunction, Capricorn, and it is always near your birthday that you end up with customary scorching self-analysis like this: “Who am I? What do people think of me? How do people really see me?” The First House, where we find both these factors, is about your name, face, reputation, image and appearance. It’s about your surface, as opposed to your substance. This can be an amazingly illuminating and useful time. If your ego is wonderfully massaged now, then you’re clearly projecting the right image out there, or sending the right signals. If not? The Sun is highlighting what you most need to pay attention to, so that by this time next year, you can shine brightly – or even brilliantly. Pluto in Capricorn is your usual reminder that image rests with self-control and that branding, or appearances are about willpower. This leads to empowerment, which is the difference between repeating what you’d rather forget from 2008-2021, or absolutely starting anew.

The Sun is now in your sector of psychics and psychology. Tarot and hypnosis. Religion and dreams. Anything on the inside. Your soul or spirit, Aquarius. Pluto is there too. So is Mercury Retrograde. This is a long, circular process within. Yet as usual the question is, do you have enough willpower to take back control?
The Sun is neither negative nor positive, it just works like the real Sun – illuminating whatever it touches. When it moves into the Twelfth House, it lights up anything and anybody you have been keeping to yourself, on the spiritual, psychic or psychological level – so that everyone else can see it. Often, people get attention for their secrets with a medium (say) or a priest at this time. Whatever has been covered up so carefully is finally exposed.
You can feel exposed at this time – as if you’ve suddenly been made aware of everything that you’ve been covering up, or even forgetting about yourself. Possibly the most important cycle for friends and groups for many years, Pisces, if you have Aquarius natal chart factors too.
