Well, Aries, with the Sun, Vesta, Venus and Apollo all in Leo – you are at one crossroads after another involving courtship or the heirs to your throne. Pretenders to the throne too. This comes from the ancient association of Leo with the son or daughter in the dynasty. It also rules potential stepchildren (pretenders to your throne). It certainly rules blended families where a single mother is looking for a husband and father for her offspring. The Fifth House is about lesbian, gay and bisexual relationships. A former partner and child custody.
It is also about anyone who is madly in love, getting married, divorcing, fighting, dealing with bereavement, or managing a pregnancy. Whatever you have in Leo in your natal chart will give you the personal side of the story. You’ll make Leo weather decisions in August. The endings may arrive as a marriage or relationship fails (if one of you is unfaithful for example); as one partner wants to adopt (say) or as the partnership changes shape, for other reasons.
Other variations on this theme include a dramatic shift in the dynamic of your relationship or marriage which makes you feel as if you do/don’t want children (forever). Specifically, dating choices which you realise shape your range of options, based on how you feel about being a step-parent, or parent. Into this mix we sometimes find unwanted, unplanned pregnancy so be aware.

A New Moon in Leo on August 4th, 2024, is misleading because Mercury Retrograde is also in Leo in August. So be wary with internet dating (Mercury rules the web) but also ‘absolutes’ regarding your children, or anybody else’s children, for that matter.
There will be a turn on August 14th as the twisting tale of Mercury in Leo, since July, actually does turn tail. Mercury Retrograde is good for rehearsal and first, second and third drafts. It’s good for research. Not so great for dramatic final conclusions about anything or anybody.
Common sense says, if your new girlfriend has committed adultery with her former husband, she’s prone to lies and deceit. Mercury alert. They called this god a trickster and when he twists and turns in your Fifth House of sexual relationships, so can the apparent facts. Or you can say one thing and do another, Aries. That can happen too.
On August 19th, there is a Full Moon in Aquarius, against the Sun in Leo. That’s unhelpful for decisions about Fifth House matters as there is internal conflict or external polar opposites. Making big choices under those conditions isn’t ideal, Aries.
Another twist, again, on August 28th will show you just how convoluted things have become. Cancellation, stop-start or long delay is extremely common. So, this may be your son’s job or a recent relationship. Mercury rules words and when retrograde, you or others can go back on your word. It happens.

Taurus, this August Leo cycle will dramatically increase the personal politics, in terms of the family, property, mortgage interests and your assets as a property investor. It is also about your hometown and homeland. Now, you need to look at yourself, and your life, all over again. That has ongoing effects in terms of your relatives or your property. Maybe your town or country.

A New Moon in Leo on August 4th, 2024, is not a new start as it should be. Why? Mercury Retrograde is also in Leo in August. So be wary with paperwork or digital trails. Property auctions may be more unreliable. Expect flux with anything from a builder to interest rates. Certainly, a family holiday or family reunion is more vulnerable to delay, change or cancellation. There will be a turn on August 14th and another on August 28th, as Mercury essentially plays Twister. What was apparently a done deal with the house, apartment, holiday home, relatives, citizenship, residency and so on – never was.
On August 19th, there is a Full Moon in Aquarius, against the Sun in Leo. Avoid the crossroads then or the fork in the road. It’s rather difficult. A great deal of what you’re all about – for the time that you have been involved in certain property or family arrangements – was put to one side. Now it’s in the spotlight. Your fellow Taurus Rishi Sunak has his time up at 10 Downing Street. That’s one real-world example.
The new path with the family, household, flat, house, town or country will not be a new path at all. It will be a loop or circuit, for a few weeks. Later on, set the co-ordinates in a direction which serves you.
Mercury Retrograde and You
Is your radar good enough to detect all the possible flux? It’s a good time to be a realist about Mercury Retrograde. Rehearse, review, rethink. This is a classic cycle for people making a bid on your apartment only to be refused by their bank, so they decline the offer. It’s also a classic cycle for relatives making plans to see you, then cancelling. This is the cycle where half the astrologers in the world are telling you it’s over, when it isn’t. Too funny.
Mercury Retrograde always begins earlier and ends later than some people will tell you. I posted the dates a couple of years ago for you, so you knew when to have Plan B. In fact, the worst IT outage in history happened on a date I gave you, right here. People who noted it down in 2022 did not get caught in 2024.

Gemini, Leo weather in August 2024 brings complications and complex relationships in Leo, the zodiac sign which rules your internet, short journeys, commuting – and siblings. This always results in a new beginning, and a new kind of life – but not this time. Why? Mercury Retrograde. Oh, you might get there in the end, but it will be a stop-start beginning. Be wary with computer and phone purchases. Read the fine print.
In this cycle, you will experience Leo weather through local travel, community internet or local publishing, and the world of siblings too. It’s intensely personal and rather challenging. Vesta and Venus are in Leo. Women in particular are at the heart of a big chess game, here. Your sister or female cousin may be the story. This zone of your chart rules siblings and cousins.
Mercury Retrograde
During these next few weeks, fate will make sure that if you travel, locally, or just travel in the mind online, you will find stop-start or cancellation. I posted the dates for Mercury Retrograde two years ago so you could avoid. Here they are again.
Either way, the biggest flux will come when you are on the move, around your town, city or region – or drawing people and plans into your life which promise to fill out your understanding and knowledge of the neighbourhood, or the neighbours (so, for example, neighbouring states or counties).
The people next door or the place next door (town, region) are most likely to give you curve balls and swerve balls in August 2024. Council paperwork may send you on a merry dance or the post may be going to the wrong house. Mercury the messenger is running backwards and forwards. And stopping.
This is particularly true with your brother or sister, Gemini. It’s personal! What is far more important is that you set a new agenda with him or her – and play a new game, in stages. Rehearse, rethink, review. Above all, rehearse. Mercury is your ruler. Retrograde, he accompanies all ‘re’ prefixes. You will inevitably reschedule in August. Why not rehearse, on paper, in a notebook?
The pandemic rolls on as Mercury reverses too, in Virgo, the sign of public health. The fantasising and denial about the virus continues but you are likely to see cancellations and delays with local and regional travel, as the supply chain is affected. It’s only wise to have Plan B, C and D on this transit. Astrology doesn’t cover up.
It may be that local is the new foreign for you. Perhaps your commitment to Zoom is changing. You may find that COVID has a direct impact on a sibling or cousin. Perhaps he or she wants to quit work and labour from home – it’s on that level. Gemini, what comes out of this by September is very likely not permanent at all, but the flux is useful as sometimes we just need to stop. Stopping and reviewing is an ideal use of this transit.

Cancer – Finance, property, business, charity, inheritance, investment and valuables are now steering you towards a crossroads. You have Pluto at one end of your money chart and Leo weather at the other.
Massive decisions will come in December, January, February as a result of what does not add up now. Just one caution: expect delay, stop-start and even cancellation. This strongly applies to paperwork or digital signatures.
Mercury Retrograde and Money
I posted the warning dates for Mercury Retrograde two years ago so you would know to avoid July and August 2024, for paperwork, negotiation, contracts and so on. Here they are again.
Essentially you need Plan B and C in August. What you assumed was fixed in July, is not. There is a lot of stuff and nonsense about Mercury Retrograde, amounting to people screaming and running for the trees. It’s just what you expect. Messages get stuck or reverse. The French rolled out the most disastrous Olympics in recent memory on Mercury Retrograde. Macron doesn’t have an astrologer (or if he does, she’s not very good). As you will be dealing with anything from a new bank to a new credit card, to a pay rise discussion – bear Mercury in mind. Mercury Retrograde is good for rehearsal and first, second and third drafts. It’s good for research.
This pile-up with Vesta and Venus in Leo also suggests that it’s not just about the facts or figures. It’s personal. Intensely so. The elephant in the room is Pluto in Aquarius, suggesting that recent questions about power and control are only going to get bigger. This happens in December, January, February when the Aquarius weather rolls.
This happens in your zone of sexual and financial relationships, as well as family agreements about inheritance. They call it the Eighth House of sex, death and money. A whopping choice is ahead that will transform everything, Cancer, but you’d be mad to ink the signatures in August.

August 2024 is the road to 2025 sign-off decisions about (say) your house or business. Your marriage and mortgage. Your divorce and the division of the spoils. Your trust fund or the legacy you leave to the children. It’s just a road that looks like Spaghetti Junction. Handle accordingly.

During this time, you will find out who you are – at least in terms of how you are seen online. New look and/or new title, Leo? C’est possible. Yet this is a rehearsal or beta test. Mercury Retrograde in Leo in August tells you this is a first and second take. Director’s cut comes later.
Leo, your new image reboot will allow you to set a totally new agenda, once August has gone – and this time your involvement with any kind of internet mirror (like Google or Twitter) will hopefully do a better job. Why? August is all about cancellation, delay and stop-start. Later on, you can finally bring all of you to the internet. Until then, August is strictly about rehearsal. It will bring rescheduling, at the very least, with matters of branding, self-promotion, your appearance and so on. Anyone who wheels you out for the cameras should realise anything from technical problems to basic human error can affect the outcome.

Don’t be fooled by the New Moon. It’s not a new start. It’s a stop-start, stop-start.
Leo, this isn’t exactly going to rewrite the book of your life, because this is not a transit that has that kind of weight. In August, though, it will show you why it is time to rehearse and review, to rethink and to reappraise. It’s not narcissism, it’s just Leo traffic in your First House of appearances, name and reputation.
Venus and Vesta and First House
These kinds of transits involving Venus and Vesta are usually about women. Leo, by the way. Venus and Vesta in your own sign in your First House classically brings jealous women. Venus resented Psyche for being more beautiful than she. Well, put it this way – rather younger. Vesta is about a toxic female group atmosphere. Put them together in your zone of branding, reputation and appearances and you have a lot of slightly screwy females getting their knickers in a twist. From August 25th, you don’t care, or the problem has gone.
You can also bet First House matters like photographs, television appearances, YouTube archives, cosmetic surgery, weight loss/gain, titles, reputations and the rest will be the story for them as well as you.
Barack Obama and Bill Clinton are both Leo so what happens to them in August, happens to you. You can bet the Democrats and the Democrat-friendly media will want them to front up. And yet…they may rather wish they hadn’t bothered.
The only issue is, the story will stop, restart, reverse and maybe come to nothing. August is a terrific month to research cosmetic surgery, Ozempic, hair transplants, Zoom teeth whitening, a new publicist, and so on. Think about September for actual Thunderbirds are Go.

Virgo, what you’re up to may take just a few hours a month – or at its most extreme, several days at a time. But one thing is sure. It will stall and reverse.
These Twelfth House transits are about religion, Tarot, therapy, self-help, hypnosis, dreams, mediumship and so on. Counselling, spirituality, oracles (like The Astrology Oracle on this website or The Garden Oracle). There are Virgo women out there using witchcraft, spells and the like.
Be extremely careful if you are dabbling with the occult as the lower astral tends to target you, you, you on Mercury Retrograde. You know that threefold rule don’t you? You may also get payback in August if you have been rather stupidly trying to short-cut money, success, love and so on – at the expense of anyone else.
This zone of your horoscope is famously off-limits to everybody, even your favourite psychic, so squirrelling yourself away, is typical. The transits in Leo in your solar Twelfth House are terribly personal and can involve a priest or a psychic, herself – or a therapist. You’ll reschedule, or it may come to nothing, or there will be stop-start timing. Mercury Retrograde, Virgo. And Mercury is your ruler.
Classically, this is the cycle in which people find you either a) elusive or b) unknowable. Your secret life will trigger more than one simultaneous beginning and ending on the Full Moon on the 19th of August 2024. Sinners, repent is also a good way of describing a stellium in the Twelfth House. These things date back to the Middle Ages when you may indeed seek penance for your sins, having realised you were at fault all along…

This doesn’t matter if it’s the Tarot or a counsellor. Treat this Leo weather as an excuse to find out who you actually are, when you’re not playing that particular external game with other people.
What you do behind the scenes, under wraps, or in secret will help you take your own time and space, in order to allow your soul or psyche, or spirit, to take you further. Yet it will be a rehearsal which is a rewrite later on, Virgo. So…You join Alcoholics Anonymous only to leave later. You book a shrink only to realise you don’t like her. You pay an astrologer for a Zoom and want a refund…These are all pretty textbook Twelfth House Mercury Retrograde examples.
As your current position rests on the fact that you’ve been trading on certain aspects of yourself (while burying or forgetting others) you may want to start by bringing all of you into the picture, but later. Virgo, you’ll be alone more in August for whatever reason, so it’s a good time to sketch out ‘What if’ in a journal or diary. Not so good for barrelling into, say, hypnosis sessions or an important meeting with the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The same old issues about your friends, social life and group involvements will be on your agenda at this time as around and around you go. It’s time to sort all this out with some journal rehearsals, Libra. It’s Leo weather in your solar Eleventh House of allies, comrades, your brotherhood and sisterhood. It’s the social pages and your social diary, but also any private members’ club, good cause and so on.
My main concern is Mercury Retrograde, so you will be rescheduling. More seriously people go back on their word. Beware false friends. In general, you can rehearse splendidly for group ventures on this transit but if you want a big, final, firm, fixed debut – you will wait. Politicians have a habit of telling the media all about their party reshuffles on this transit then recanting later.
Libra, all the issues you face in connection with this group or friend will seem familiar now. You’ve been around – and around – since July, after all. You will have a lot of wisdom and experience to draw on now, no matter if you are sorting out new friends, old friends, new groups or old groups. Lord knows you’ve had enough Leo transits in your life!
Some detachment can help you make some wise decisions. Libra, you now have privileged wisdom to draw on. My main concern is Venus and Vesta in Leo in your Eleventh House. Venus shows up as jealous older women who are insecure about losing their popularity and looks. Venus did this with her daughter-in-law, Psyche. Venus always loses, but while she is bringing herself and her hand-mirror into your Eleventh House of friends and groups, steer clear of patently jealous females. You want sisterhood not some silly moo, as they call them in London.
Vesta is of course notorious for toxic group atmospheres between women. Jealousy, again. The best way through August is to avoid, avoid. And if you can’t avoid, be clever enough to actually make friends with the enemy. That’s a tactic readers use a lot on here when they have Vesta issues.
Libra, I really don’t think this Leo weather is a big deal. There’s no historic transit in this sign, just a lot of fuss about nothing, in August. Long-term you will use what you rehearsed about friends and groups, in your mind, or in your journal, to actually make a proper fresh start later.

Scorpio, August is about your success, status, rank, position, mission, ambition and workload. If you have a part-time or full-time job, this cycle will help you rehearse solutions in your working life, by delivering the same people and situations for new assessment in a different way, twice or thrice.
Mercury Retrograde is with you. Try to avoid job interviews, promotion talks, product launches and the like. You really don’t want this in your Tenth House and in fact he’s been all over the place since July. Have Plan B and Plan C if other people want you to go for a big business meeting, but they don’t use astrology (or they have an astrologer who doesn’t understand Mercury Retrograde!)
Time to get back on track, isn’t it? However, the pandemic is affecting you, or your workload, August suggests that a New Moon is time for a new beginning – but later. It’s stalled. Now you can steadily get to the point where you can be a detached observer about work. This is why people who rehearse it all in a notebook, end up being so calm about it. And it’s the same with resigning.
Venus and Vesta are in your zone of career, academia and unpaid work. Cue toxic females. Venus is notorious for jealousy, usually from a woman who is past it, professionally, towards a woman who is clearly making it. You also tend to get females at their cattiest and bitchiest when Vesta is around. It’s all pretty yawn-worthy, Scorpio so don’t engage. It’s over as August is over. Venus and Vesta are but a faint memory of knotted knickers. It won’t have any impact whatsoever on your long-term success.

Leo weather does rather suggest your paid work, unpaid work or academic career is now at the heart of major new decisions, but you will backtrack. Let me give you some dates.

It’s all too hard and there are easier times to pursue a new career, or accept a new role, or say you are definitely done with the old one. Sagittarius, here’s Mercury Retrograde. You’ll go round and round with the same foreign issues now. In fact, you may feel as if you’re hitting the repeat button, with foreigners, as there is a strong sense of ‘seen it all before’ with that nationality, culture or country as flights are cancelled, tourists reschedule, emigration is held up and the rest. The Leo weather is going over old ground you knew, in July and again, in the early part of August.
Despite all that wishing and hoping, amazingly nobody told COVID about it – and Mercury will go backwards in Virgo, the pandemic sign. Your travel plans will be affected in August or those of people around you. It is a two-step, Sagittarius. Mercury (travel) stalls and reverses in Leo (foreigners and foreign countries) then does it in Virgo (health, in your natal chart).
This can help you to remain wonderfully calm and philosophical about what is going on as you use your journal for sketches, rough ideas, first takes and beta tests – about foreigners. The names, faces or map points on the globe may change, but everything else is extremely manageable if you treat this the way film directors treat a shoot. The other Ninth House issues are publishing and the web (of course) and academia.
Here, again, you have stop-start and perhaps cancellation. Certainly, suspended animation for a time. I published the Mercury Retrograde dates two years ago on this website so you wouldn’t actually be caught. You can choose to stretch yourself further with your own worldwide web situation later – as the choice is yours. Even inside a Zoom box. But ‘later’ is the key.
If you believe that it’s time to go to the next level, either with informal study or formal academia, all that intuition from other Leo cycles and all those hard-won life lessons will help you. However, August is not the month. It’s too much like hard work, if you ask me.
Vesta and Venus are also in your Ninth. Catty women who hide behind false names online are pretty typical. It’s over as soon as it begins, but you can bet that one or other of these two (the planet or the asteroid) will coincide with foreign matters, foreign trips, foreign countries and cultures sending you a bit of meow. The whiff of the litter tray – that’s Venus and Vesta. Why bother, Sagittarius?

Capricorn, if you want the available power with a particular financial, property, charity or business option – then you have to use willpower. Putting yourself on a tight leash is second nature now, as you realise you will only stand a chance of getting what you want (and keeping it) if you refrain from saying or doing anything that might jeopardise it. In other words, doing what comes naturally simply cannot be allowed to happen.
Do you get what you want? You stand a good chance in December, January, February – if you still want it, that is. Maybe there are better ways of finding the power with money or property.
August is a test of your patience too as Mercury Retrograde in Leo suggests paperwork stalls, there are technical issues or people change their minds. This is classically about marriage and mortgage or family and inheritance. August is a signpost to December, January, February but best not taken as an immediate reason to move. Signposts can be examined, pondered, researched. Maps can be scrutinised and meditated upon. That’s a sane approach to the situation with money or property in August as July-August was always going to be about flux. Mercury Retrograde can do that.
Later on, as I mentioned, power is absolutely in the room. It’s been there since everything changed forever last year. The trick with Pluto is understanding you can only access that power (get into bed with it) if you control yourself. This is a 20-year transit by the way. You are just at stage one.
The malarkey of Mercury Retrograde in Leo means spun wheels. This is in the Eighth House of sexual and financial relationships (the lesbian sugar mummy and the shop girl) but also ‘Until death do us part’ standard marital contracts. Mercury is the paperwork or handshake agreement, best not relied upon. When retrograde there are retracted statements, rescheduled diaries and so on.
Normally there isn’t much point in flapping about this transit, but because it just happens to be in the Eighth House of larger financial concerns, as you deal with the massive impact of Pluto in your Second House of life budgets – do be aware in August. What happens now is a big nod to 2025 but you need Plan B and C. Read the fine print.
Venus and Vesta are also in Leo in your Eighth House of family property and relationship finance. Jealousy and rivalry between women is pretty common. It vanishes before August does so don’t engage. Venus often shows up as a mother-in-law figure with a daughter-in-law type. Vesta shows up when women compete for popularity. It’s all very, very 60 AD which is where these archetypes belong. You’re in 2024, correct?

Aquarius, any changes which take place in your duets or duels now won’t seem like changes at all – the shape of the events unfolding will be familiar to you from the last Mercury Retrograde in Leo. Maybe you had no idea your ex-wife had somebody new. Then it turns out she doesn’t. It’s on that level. Mercury is information. Retrograde is rescheduled, rewritten, reconsidered, retracted – information. Put it in your zone of sexual relationships, marriages, divorce battles, separation and the rest – and you have August.
Classically, you will now meet one major situation which is entirely new to you, but you nevertheless know exactly why you can’t trust the facts completely. Marriage can be like that. Divorce can be like that. This is the cycle of duets and duels as well. The duels are classically professional rivalry, or lawsuits, or competitions at work. Often a love triangle. My eye is drawn to Venus and Vesta that rather toxic combination, in your Seventh House.
Do not engage with catty women. End of. Don’t even throw them one morsel of Whiskas. What we have here is backward, stuck or cancelled information with your other half, or the other side. Lennon to your Yoko, perhaps. However, there is also a whiff, which you tend to get with Venus and Vesta. Venus was vain, jealous, insecure and betrayed her husband by having sex with Mars. Vesta was the goddess of celibate women in a shared household who could be buried alive if they were found to have had sex with a man. Oh, the joy of these two in Leo in your Seventh House, but perhaps it explains the whiff of Whiskas.
August may influence your life as a professional wife, for example, or your ‘confirmed single’ existence. And then there are work partnerships or professional double-acts. Any sort of duet.
Aquarius, the whole point of this cycle, is to encourage you to use your intuition, your experience and your knowledge, to help you move forward. So, as this Leo New Moon rolls past you, it won’t really feel like you’re getting very far – but you can certainly research and test. This is diary or journal month. Find out what you need to find out, but why act, when Mercury is retrograde?
Pay special attention to the new dates, or potential dates, as innate wisdom and intuitive knowledge, learned in other (tougher) Mercury Retrograde cycles will help you. Even email or website technical issues can be a problem with dating now. And people do go back on their word. Be sharply aware. Mercury is the word. Retrograde is ‘returning’.
If you feel as if you’re hitting the ‘same old, same old’ with your spouse or lover at this time, it’s probably because you are rewinding a July piece of information, Aquarius. What matters now, though, is that you achieve some calmer outcomes. You can act or judge later. August is rehearsal.

Pisces, the Leo weather now is erratic. Mercury Retrograde is in Leo in your Sixth House of workload and wellbeing. You also have Venus and Vesta there (no thanks), so women are often toxic. You can happily duck and dive with work, unpaid work or academia. You can practise avoidance and chess plays with females who show signs of Venus syndrome or Vesta syndrome.
What’s that? Jealousy of other women. Venus and Vesta can turn up as trollops, harpies and harridans – also old bats. Think of Terry Jones in Monty Python and the Holy Grail and you’re halfway there.
Skip it, even though the transits are over before August is. You really have better things to do, Pisces. There is also this massive false start with the New Moon ahead. Normally if you see the moon over your roof as a thin sliver you are on your way to a fresh start. In Leo, a fresh start with lifestyle, workload, health, wellbeing. Not this time. It will start, stop, start, stall and may come to nothing. Be aware of that.
None of this is life-changing because the Leo transits are so ephemeral. It’s rather like the fishwives. They slip away. If you are signing contracts, though, read the fine print. Handshake agreements on work may not be worth the hand, shaken.
Health and wellbeing are also unsolved riddles at this time. Mercury in Leo in your Sixth House suggests you may have to reschedule a doctor – or you find your health insurance fine print has been particularly sneaky. No refund. Astrological logic says, “Don’t use August to get new health insurance, or become vegan or join a gym.” The Sixth House is about your body. There is no Skyfall Pisces, but you might waste your time or money.
Mercury is the message. Retrograde is the message, redelivered. Or rescheduled. Put that into your work and health zone and you can see why so many people treat this cycle as rehearsal time, not final outcome time.
