Motherhood and Your Moon Sign
Your Moon sign, and any patterns (aspects) involving the Moon, shows you what kind of mother you are, and what sort of mum/mom you might be, one day.
It’s uncannily accurate.

Lady Victoria Beckham, Moon in Aquarius
Lady Victoria Beckham has the Moon in Aquarius, the sign of groups, teams, charities, bands and clubs. How did she raise Brooklyn, Romeo, Harper and Cruz? As if they were in the Spice Girls.
As if they were in the England football team or Manchester United (David’s best-known teams).
As if they were in the United Nations or Save the Children. She has, in fact, used her maternal instinct in Save the Children and also with UNAIDS. As you’ll see in Part Two of this special feature for Mother’s Day, Moon in Aquarius mothers do best with husbands and fathers, who appreciate their team spirit. (Image: Creative Commons).
You’ll read all kinds of things about Moon signs and compatibility with men. The most famous study on the Moon and marriage was conducted by Carl Jung. It didn’t work. The Sun in one person’s chart, in conjunction with the Moon in another’s, was supposed to be a good marriage indicator. It wasn’t.
What does work, though, is knowing your Moon sign (and the sort of maternal instinct, or caring, feminine heart you have) and finding a man who appreciates it. Not surprisingly, for such a team player, Sir David could not resist Victoria.
Easy Motherhood or Difficult Motherhood?
You need a personal birth chart to spot this. Patterns, or aspects, involving your Moon will show you if a son is an easy responsibility for you (or not). They will show if your daughter will throw you challenges, or be one of the happiest stories in your life. Typically, we all have mixed Moon aspects or patterns. I can take some questions about this, seeing as it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday 10th May. If you don’t have a full modern astrology chart, you can subscribe for US $7 and pick it up.
Using the Tarot and Oracles
Something else that may interest you, is using the Smith Waite Tarot and all the Oracles on this website to ask the question, ‘What do I bring to motherhood?’ or ‘What will I bring to motherhood if I have a son or daughter?’
You can also do a family spread. Just pick one card for you, one card for your husband or partner (or former partner), and one card for your son or daughter. How do you all work together as a family?
The Twelve Moon Signs
Moon in Aries Mothers
They care for you by fighting for you. They look after you by competing on your behalf or coming first. School sports days find the Moon in Aries mother battling it out for the egg and spoon race like no other woman. This is a Tiger Mother. She is always front-and-centre and in the front line for you. Nobody messes with her children. Angelina Jolie has the Moon in Aries. She has six children with her ex-husband Brad Pitt. Three are adopted, three she gave birth to. Moon in Aries women can fight over their children (with their partners or exes) as well as for them. Jolie has adopted children from countries affected by war. She has also been at war, at various times, with partners. The Moon in Aries mother at her best is fearless, energetic, one of life’s winners, courageous, first in line for a good cause (or a good purpose) and the woman you want on your side. Not against. Moon in Taurus Mothers
These women express their maternal instinct through money and real estate. Possessions. What money cannot buy (values). Also what is precious but goes beyond a price tag (home-made strawberry jam from home-grown strawberries). The Moon in Taurus woman has to decide in her twenties or thirties if she’s basically a capitalist, socialist, communist or environmentalist. Or just a shopaholic. Meryl Streep is a good example of a Moon in Taurus mother. She has brought up Grace, Mamie, Louisa and Henry. Moon in Taurus women teach their children how to save and make money. In fact, earning pocket money is one of the first lessons they learn. Mamie was 20 months old when she had her first job (in the film Heartburn). Moon in Taurus mums/moms tend to be like Keira Knightley (another example) and think about their children’s future careers, even when they are very little. Keira’s daughter Edie wants to be a dentist. Always with Taurus Moon mothers, the question is ‘How will they earn a living?’ The will/legacy to the children is central.
Moon in Gemini Mothers
Moon in Gemini mother Tilda Swinton actually has twins (Gemini rules the heavenly twins). This kind of mum/mom is a natural teacher and will read aloud to her son or daughter from an early age. She commonly takes an interest in her children’s school and education (more than other
parents). Gemini rules communication. Writing, public speaking, podcasting or debating. If the Moon in Gemini mother spends a lot of time with her child, they may end up with similar voices as her son or daughter picks up her accent or tone. Nicknames are typical; Gemini mothers tend to play around with words and there may be more than one nickname which sticks, in both directions. These women like bright children. Even brilliant children; the dream is often to see them do well at university or college. In case you’re wondering, of course men have Moon signs too and they ‘mother’ their daughters or sons accordingly. Barack Obama is a good example. Malia and Sasha received an open letter from him in Parade magazine. Gemini rules letters, cards, diaries, journals, websites and social media. Caring and nurturing reveals itself on paper or on a computer; Gemini Moon parents have a great way of finding the right words to express feelings. (Image: Creative Commons).
Moon in Cancer Mothers
Mariah Carey actually has ‘care’ hidden in her name. The Moon always reveals how we care, protect, feed (literally or emotionally), nurture, defend and express pure maternal instinct. She has twins, Moroccan and Monroe. Almost as important as the children, is home. In fact it is difficult for any Moon in Cancer woman to proceed with pregnancy unless she feels her apartment or house is her castle. Carey even named Moroccan that, because she was inspired by the Moroccan decor on the top floor of her apartment. It is important to these women that the family stays together and even if they break up, they will do their best to co-parent with their children’s father. Tradition is very important; unless there were real issues in the Moon in Cancer woman’s family, she will try to raise her son and daughter respecting old-fashioned customs her parents and grandparents also had. It might be Christmas and Easter, or Hannukah. You will sometimes read that Moon in Cancer women are the most ‘motherly’ of moms/mums because of course Cancer rules the maternal line. It also rules the womb and breasts. Is this true? It really depends on your personal birth chart. The patterns or aspects to your Moon show how easy or challenging it is for you.
Moon in Leo Mothers
Not so much a mother, more like a Queen with heirs to her throne. Maybe some spares or pretenders too (young nieces, nephews and godchildren all receive the royal treatment). If you want your Leo Moon mum/mom to make you her favourite, you have to court her. You need to respect her (obviously) and flatter her – sincerely. These women are natural leaders, mentors, guides and influences on the children, teenagers and Millennials in their lives. They are authority figures who understand that common interests bring them together with their son or daughter. Thus, the Moon in Leo mother usually has a passion for something (like Harry Potter books, or riding, or bands) which their children or teenagers can also enjoy. It’s almost a rule with this Moon sign. It’s not unusual for this woman to give her offspring royal names. Their first or second name may borrow from, say, the last few centuries of British monarchs. Julia Roberts is a Moon Leo and has a son called Henry. These women are always mindful of the need to set a good example. Manners are important. Etiquette counts. They take their role as mother very seriously and will give up their career to put their son or daughter first. Their home becomes their palace/kingdom.
Moon in Virgo Mothers
Virgo rules the body, mind and spirit and the Moon in Virgo woman does not separate them. She is her body. Her body is her. When it all works together easily in her chart, without any difficult aspects (patterns) this woman is like a well-oiled machine. Her food, drink, doctor, personal trainer, dentist, therapist, yoga instructor and so on – is part of her lifestyle – and who she is. Moon in Virgo women pass this mindfulness about health to their children. There is typically a tremendous concern with the contents of the kitchen and the bathroom; they have strong opinions about vaccines too. Madonna is a famous Moon in Virgo mother. She has Lourdes, David, Rocco, Stella, Estere and Mercy to her credit. Virgo is of course the virgin and ‘Like A Virgin’ made Madonna successful enough to fund a lavish lifestyle for her adopted and biological children. Motherhood is work, work, work to the Moon in Virgo woman. It involves routine, scheduling and a near-professional approach to the business of being a mum/mom. The only thing that stops this for a Virgo Moon woman – is her own body. She needs back-up for those times when she’s not 100% so this kind of mother commonly has a co-parent partner, nanny, or active godmother.

And if your Cancer Moon (in exact conjunction with the Sun) is squared from Mars in Aries, Jupiter in Libra and the Nodes (Ketu in Aries).
That’s a T-Square, if they are all within a one degree orb of each other. It’s crosstown traffic, to quote Hendrix. It’s also karmic in nature. The nodes are always your past lives. So you have regular traffic jams, or tricky intersections, about motherhood. They come from what happened to you last time. The Tarot and Modern I Ching are free to use on this website and you can ask, what that was. It could be useful.
